I think it was last season
('97-98) that I saw an interview on television regarding Mike Modano and his
sticks and blades. They showed him talking about how not all the sticks arrive
accurate and the players had to file them down and even use blowtorches to get
them to where they felt comfortable with them. During the course of the interview
other players were working on their sticks as well. As some may have heard,
Pat Verbeek is known as the "little ball of hate". At one point during the interview,
you see Modano working on a stick and talking. Behind him on another table was
Verbeek, working on one of his sticks with a blowtorch. You see Verbeek turn
around and just get.. this face.. those of you who have seen the little
ball of hate often know this face.. mischievous, pure evil with a grin...
Verbeek took that blowtorch
and set it under poor Modano's bottom (he was wearing shorts)... Modano jumped
and darn near shrieked.... I laughed hysterically... This prompted me to do
this particular sketch... I'm sure Modano isn't and won't be the only victim
to fall prey to Verbeek's blowtorch! Enjoy!
