Pencils From a Donruss Card

This update, I opted to go for an actual drawing instead of an Eddie and Talon cartoon. There will be more, of course, but I had also promised more "regular" art as well. Offseason should hopefully include some non-hockey-esque Eddie and Talon cartoons, while picking back up again in the preseason for hockey related 'toons.

This pencilled drawing was done while looking at a Donruss Studio Card. It's about 11"X14" on some really light old paper I had. Unfortunately during the pencilling you can see where (on the hair) the paper buckled from weakening during the scanning process. This picture was done with the intentions of making a largish sized drawing to go by for either airbrushing or acrylic painting. I printed a smaller version out on my laser printer and made a small correction to thin out Ed's right side (viewer's left) of his face. Sometimes when you work larger things look different at a different size. Some tricks you can learn to check on something you're not sure is right or wrong - walk away for a few hours or a day and go back, you might just see the things that need to be fixed. Print or copy it smaller and do any markings in another color pencil/pen for ref's to fix the original or finished piece, and something my mom taught me, hold it up to a mirror, if it looks funny - chances are something is wrong with it. I must admit it's been a little while since I've had to do art like this and remind me not to use older paper again - it didn't like the heavy leads... I've been doing Eddie and Talon cartoons a while longer than I thought, I guess. Anyway, hopefully I'll be able to post this in its color form sometime soon. Enjoy!
